In this article, we will dive into some speculation as well as some of what we know about every class that will be in Path of Exile 2’s full release!
Path of Exile 2 came out in early access in December 2024 and has steadily grown ever since. In today’s article, I wanted to engage in a little bit of speculation and data gathering about what the future might hold regarding every playable style that there will be.
If you’re excited about the game’s current content and want to experience all of it before even more comes out, I would recommend you purchase POE 2 currency to get to the endgame content faster than ever.
PoE 2 released with 6 playable classes with 2 ascendancies each. That’s a total of 12 widely different play styles. However, in the full release of the game it’s planned that the game will have 12 classes with 3 ascendancies each! That’s 36 play styles to try out!
With this many classes and ascendancies it would be understandable for you to feel overwhelmed, which class should you try? Are you new to the genre or a veteran? Let’s get into what they are and speculate a little about what the new ones will be like.
Classes Already In The Game
The classes that released with the early access are:
- Warrior: straightforward strength class where you focus on melee damage. Dealing AoE damage with powerful attacks and closing distances with large jumps.
- Sorceress: Intelligence being their main stat, these attack from a distance with a variety of different spells and elements.
- Mercenary: Strength and dex are this class’ stats, these play pretty different than the rest of the classes, they keep their distance and attack with various types of weapons.
- Monk: Strength and intelligence class that deals heavy damage, both physical and elemental.
- Ranger: Dexterity class that deals with opponents from a distance with their bows and traps.
- Witch: A more complex Intelligence magic wielder that can perform various dark magic spells to aid them in battle. Such as summoning an army of the dead!
These are the 6 classes currently in the game and each has 2 ascendancies, with one more to come with the full release. If you want a more in depth dive as to what each of this is like, you can always check out a Wiki or tutorial. The main attraction here is the future classes, which we’ll get into now.
Upcoming Classes
It’s an exciting future for PoE 2 regarding the upcoming classes, 4 are returning fan favorites from the previous game, this time appearing as fully fledged classes and 2 are entirely new ones.
Let’s start with the new ones. A new league of PoE 2 is about to begin and with it, the update “Dawn of the Hunt” will launch as well. This new update will bring a new class! As of writing this article, it wasn’t confirmed which one it is, but we can take a pretty confident guess as to which one it is.
The Huntress
The Huntress is a dexterity class that uses traps, much like the ranger, but instead of bows they use a spear. Forcing them to stay at medium to close range. Their lack of defense is made up with their mobility. Being able to dart around the area with various skills. This class seems like it will be a lot of fun. She can even deal elemental damage with her spears!
Players that like more engaging and active battle mechanics will love this upcoming class!
Druid
The Druid is a strength and intelligence class that uses their magic to transform into different animals to help in battle. This class has already been showcased. Showing the Druid shapeshifting into a bear that builds rage by mauling its enemies and enter a “Rampage” state. They can also summon a wolf to help them in battle. It seems they’ll morph into a bear to attack, then change back to human to cast powerful spells.
This highly dynamic class is probably the best fit for experienced players. But as always, a hard class to play is also probably the most fun if you put the work in!
These were the two brand-new classes that are coming to Path of Exile 2. Very exciting! Now there are some classes that are coming back. Granted some of these might have a different name or different play style when the game comes out so take some of this with a grain of salt.
The classes coming back are:
- Marauder: In the first Path of Exile, the Marauder was a class similar to the warrior, except they would wield large axes. Essentially they would be slower and have less defense, but their offense would be very high, with wide AoE attacks and powerful swings. Combined with some rallying shouts that would buff their allies and debuff enemies.
- Duelist: A fan favorite of the first game! This class could use anything from a sword and shield, a two-handed weapon and even two-handed weapons. They would excel at avoiding and dealing damage they used both strength and dexterity, as is expected of a character with such diverse loadouts. I expect this class to be a strength version of the huntress. High mobility and damage being the main theme of this class.
- Shadow: one of the most complex classes in the first game, this dexterity and intelligence class had fast hitting weapons and traps to control the battlefield. Traps having such a focus in PoE 2 makes me think this class will maybe have a slight rework to make it stand out from the rest. It’s safe to assume that traps will be their main tool.
- Templar: A strength and intelligence class that fans are excited about because there isn’t a lot of synergy between these two stats at the moment. These are highly defensive classes that can also deal elemental damage. They have buffs and energy shields, which helps their already tank-like build. I think it’s fair to say this class will also be very different when it comes out.
In Conclusion
Those are all the classes that will make it into Path of Exile 2 at launch. It’s unknown if any classes will be added after 1.0 comes out this year, but we already have a lot more than we can chew, so let’s just be excited for what’s on the horizon!
