Alan Wake: The American Nightmare is a 2011 first-person shooter video game developed by Remedy Entertainment and published by Microsoft Game Studios for Microsoft Windows, PlayStation 3 and Xbox 360, as part of the Xbox Live Arcade library. The story follows Alan Wake , a writer and small-town police officer who is plunged into darkness as his wife and daughter are abducted by a malevolent force. His quest for revenge follows him as he searches the American Night (a fictional North American location) for his family and allies, and tries to save it from the spread of the “Darkness”.
You might not know it yet, but Alan Wake is one of the most beloved game series of the past decade. It’s brilliantly creepy (and misogynistic) narrative, was well-crafted (and hard) gameplay, and the fact that it was the very first game to be exclusive to Xbox 360 (and PC) was an amazing promotional boost for Microsoft. The game is also known for its stupendous prequel, Alan Wake’s American Nightmare (though it’s not canon to the main game) and its interesting story, being one of the few games to have a playable Alan Wake in a nightmare-themed DLC, Wake the Demon.
